Kazakhstan's Barys failed to extend its winning streak in the Kontinental Hockey League 2026/27. After beating Neftekhimik, Spartak and Avangard, the team lost to Sibir 2:3. This was reported by Qazaqyia.kz citing Kursiv Media.

For the second match in a row, the Kazakhs conceded first at a packed Barys Arena. This time it happened in the middle of the first period. Barys was left shorthanded after Hunter Shepard inadvertently moved his own net. Former Barys player Darren Dietz was involved in Stepan Nikulin's power-play goal.

Before the first intermission, the hosts not only equalized but also took the lead. Defenseman Logan Day, extending his personal point streak to six games (0+10), provided an assist on Mason Morelli's goal. Then the team's top scorer, Justin Bailey, with a clever pass set up Kirill Savitsky for a shot. The team captain did not miss – 2:1.

🏒 BARYS (Astana, Kazakhstan) – SIBIR (Novosibirsk, Russia) 2:3 (2:1, 0:0, 0:2)

Goals: Nikulin (Beck, Dietz) 11:38 PP (0:1), Morelli (Day, Massy) 13:24 (1:1), Savitsky (Bailey, Daniyar) 18:09 (2:1), Beck (Dietz, Nikulin) 50:58 PP (2:2), Tyutnev (Orlov, Nikulin) 55:36 (2:3)

Ten minutes before the third siren, Sibir coach Yaroslav Lyuzenkov went all-in, replacing Mikhail Berdin with a sixth skater. The plan worked. Seven seconds later, Semyon Simonov went to the penalty box, and 16 seconds after that, Taylor Beck equalized. Again with Dietz's involvement – 2:2.

Barys rushed to score a third goal and ran into a counterattack. A gross mistake by Shepard, who failed to freeze an easy puck, cost Mikhail Kravets' charges a painful defeat in a match that seemed won – 2:3.

At the start of the regular season, Barys thrashed the Novosibirsk team 7:1 in Astana. Today Sibir took revenge.

The KHL regular season, which started on September 5, will last until March 20, 2027. Each of the 22 teams will play 68 games. Based on the regular season results, 8 teams from each conference earn the right to participate in the playoffs.

In the three-match home series, Barys still has to play Avtomobilist. After that, the Astana team will play nine consecutive games on the road.
