Kazakhstan's Barys won their third consecutive match in the KHL. The Astana-based team, trailing at home against Omsk Avangard, celebrated a comeback victory – 5:1. This was reported by Qazaqyia.kz citing Kursiv Media.
In the 2026/27 KHL regular season, Barys are so far playing in streaks. After three straight defeats (against Neftekhimik, SKA and Ak Bars), Mikhail Kravets' charges won three meetings. Against the same Neftekhimik, Spartak and today against Avangard.

Meanwhile, things started difficult for the Barys players. In the 3rd minute of the match, a too-many-men violation led to a penalty for the hosts. Two seconds before the fifth player appeared, Nail Yakupov opened the scoring against Andrei Shutov.
Before the break, Tice Thompson equalized – 1:1, and in the second period the Astana team scored twice more. To the delight of the packed stands of Barys Arena, in the 24th minute, after a solo rush, the team's top scorer Justin Bailey stood out. And in the 36th minute, Mason Morelli redirected the puck into Nikita Serebryakov's net after Logan Day's slap shot. Thus converting the power play – 3:1.
In the 4th minute of the third period, the Astana team created such a whirlwind around the opponents' net that the Omsk defenders left Bailey alone in front of an empty frame. Justin gladly completed his double – 4:1. In the closing stages, the guests pulled their goalie and conceded a fifth goal. The second double of the match was on Thompson's account – 5:1.
Having secured their eighth win of the regular season, the Kazakhstanis rose to third place in the conference.
The KHL regular season, which started on September 5, will last until March 20, 2027. Each of the 22 teams will play 68 games. Based on the results of the regular season, 8 teams from each conference earn the right to participate in the playoffs.
After a three-match home series, Barys face a serious test – nine consecutive games on the road.
