Negotiations are underway on the construction of a second nuclear power plant in Balkhash. This was stated by Energy Minister Yerlan Akkenzhenov, as reported by Qazaqyia.kz citing Sputnik Kazakhstan.
The first nuclear power plant is being built by the Russian company Rosatom. The second station may be built by China.
"Currently, this issue is being elaborated with China's national nuclear company. We are discussing the main parameters of the project and the agreement, as well as the timeline. The projects must be completed by 2035," Akkenzhenov said at a briefing in the government.
It should be noted that Tokayev in his address this year gave instructions regarding the construction of the Balkhash and Moyynkum nuclear power plants.
