The launch of the first unit of the Balkhash Nuclear Power Plant (NPP) in Kazakhstan is scheduled for 2037. This was announced by the Minister of Energy of Kazakhstan Almasadam Satkaliyev. This was reported by Qazaqyia.kz citing Sputnik Kazakhstan.
According to the minister, the feasibility study of the project is currently being developed, and construction work will begin in the coming years. The first unit of the NPP is aimed at ensuring the country's energy security and reducing carbon emissions.
Satkaliyev emphasized that the development of nuclear energy is of strategic importance for Kazakhstan. He also noted that the project will comply with international standards and strict safety requirements.
Earlier, a decision was made to build a nuclear power plant in Kazakhstan, and relevant work has already begun. The implementation of the project will help solve the problem of energy shortage and increase the country's export potential.
