United States striker Folarin Balogun has spoken about his red card in the World Cup round of 32 match against Bosnia, expressing that a yellow card would have been a fairer punishment. This was reported by Qazaqyia.kz citing Associated Press.
The match took place on July 1, 2026, in Santa Clara, California. Balogun was sent off in the 20th minute after a foul on Bosnia's Tarik Muharemovic, with Brazilian referee Raphael Claus issuing the red card.
"I think a yellow card would have been fair," Balogun said after the game. "It wasn't intentional, I was trying to play the ball. But I respect the referee's decision."
The US team won 2-1 against Bosnia and advanced to the next round. Due to the red card, Balogun will miss the next match.
"This situation upset me a lot, but the team won, that's the most important thing," he added.
Balogun stated that he will learn from this incident and try to avoid such mistakes in the future.
