Kazakh pediatrician Nurzhamal Aubakirova has analyzed the main factors that provoke nosebleeds in children and explained how to properly care for the nasal mucosa and in which cases urgent medical attention is needed. This was reported by Qazaqyia.kz citing Kursiv Media.

"Nosebleeds in children are a fairly common situation that can greatly frighten parents. But it does not always indicate a serious problem," the pediatrician explains.

Dry air is the most common cause

The most common cause of nosebleeds in children is dry air. According to the doctor, in this case, crusts form in the child's nose, the child picks at them, and therefore nosebleeds may occur.

"In this case, it is necessary to maintain the humidity parameters in the apartment. You can use various products for nasal hygiene to moisturize the mucous membrane. In particular, Aquamaris helps," Aubakirova explains.

Viral infections

The second cause is viral infections. Against the background of the disease, the child's blood vessels become fragile, and accordingly, nosebleeds occur. In this case, the doctor advises using only nasal hygiene with saline solutions.

Incorrect use of medications

The third cause is the incorrect use of vasoconstrictor drops, such as Nazivin, Otrivin. They can be used no more than three times a day and for no more than five days in a row.

Also, bleeding can be caused by improper use of hormonal nasal sprays. They should be used only according to indications, and the duration is also regulated by a doctor.

Injuries and foreign bodies

"The fourth cause is various injuries to the nose or foreign bodies. Here it is important: if you see purulent discharge from the nose, blood comes only from one side of the nose, and nasal congestion is observed only on one side, then this requires a mandatory visit to a doctor," the pediatrician explained.

Deficiency conditions

Various deficiency conditions are the fifth common cause of nosebleeds in children. These include iron and vitamin D deficiencies in the body. They also lead to fragile blood vessels and frequent bleeding. Therefore, it is important to eat properly and in a balanced way.

"If a child's nosebleed stops quickly, there are no accompanying complaints such as weight loss, lethargy, and weakness, then it is not dangerous. In other cases, a doctor's consultation is required," Aubakirova explained.

Earlier, the doctor said that the popular drugs "Stopdiar" and "Enterofuril" are useless for children's vomiting and diarrhea.
