New details have emerged in the death of two Kazakh citizens whose bodies were found in a rented apartment in Sharjah. The victims were identified as sisters Zhuldyz and Akzhan Bokhanovy, aged 20 and 22. This was reported by Qazaqyia.kz citing KTK TV channel.
According to relatives, the sisters came to the UAE for work in December 2025 and worked at a beauty salon. About 10 days before the bodies were found, they stopped making contact.
The last message the girls sent to their parents was short.
"Hello, mom, everything is fine with us, I have a cold, my throat hurts, I'll contact you later," the daughter said in a voice message.
The father of the deceased, Meiram Bokhanov, said that messages to his daughters were read, but he received no response.
"On Monday I write - they read, but there is no answer. They are not going to give us the bodies yet. They said it will be considered for a week. We ask for help to make it faster. They need to be buried. They have been lying there for so long... I want to return them here and bury them like human beings," the man said.
It turned out that Zhuldyz and Akzhan had previously gone to the UAE for work, so the family did not worry about them. This time, the sisters planned to return to Kazakhstan in February, but due to the escalation of the conflict in the Middle East, they postponed their return to early September.
According to the sister of the deceased, Mensulu Bokhanova, the girls were in the country not on tourist visas and could not leave immediately during the evacuation.
"First there was an evacuation of tourists, they left for a week. And they had been there since December, they needed to make documents. They couldn't leave right away. But they wanted to go home. I asked if they needed money, if everything was okay. Everything was fine. I don't even know what the reason could be," she said.
The circumstances of the girls' death have not yet been disclosed. Relatives were also not informed whether traces of violence were found on the bodies. The family believes the sisters may have been killed. According to unconfirmed information, a suspect was detained, but this information has not been officially confirmed.
The Ministry of Foreign Affairs of Kazakhstan stated that the investigation is being conducted by the UAE law enforcement agencies.
"The Consulate General of Kazakhstan in Dubai is providing the necessary consular and legal assistance. Local authorities are investigating the circumstances of the incident and, in the interests of the investigation, do not disclose information," the MFA of Kazakhstan reported.
The father of the deceased flew from Astana to the Emirates. To confirm his relationship, he will have to undergo a DNA test. After that, the man will be able to take the bodies of his daughters and deliver them to Kazakhstan for burial.
