The sixth competition day of the 20th Summer Asian Games, held in Aichi and Nagoya, ended on 25 September. According to the day's results, Kazakhstan's team won five bronze medals in rowing, shooting, fencing and athletics, the Ministry of Tourism and Sports reported. Rowing: women's kayak four takes bronze
The first medal of the sixth competition day was claimed by Kazakhstan's women's team in rowing. Olga Shmeleva, Stella Sukhanova, Tatyana Tokarnitskaya and Evelina Kostenko won bronze in the women's kayak four over 500 metres. The Kazakh athletes covered the distance in 1 minute 37.005 seconds.
Shooting: Islam Satpayev finishes third
In shooting, Islam Satpayev added another bronze medal to the country's tally. In the final of the 50-metre small-bore rifle three positions event, the Kazakh athlete scored 348.3 points and took third place.
Fencing: women's team wins bronze
In fencing, the women's team also became a bronze medallist. In the quarter-finals, the Kazakh team beat Hong Kong 45:35, while in the semi-finals they lost to China's athletes 21:45. As a result, Sofia Nikolaychuk, Irina Bakaldina, Vladislava Andreeva and Darya Samodelkina won bronze medals at the Asian Games.
Athletics: a historic medal
Kazakhstan's team won two bronze medals in athletics. Polina Ivanova cleared 4.15 metres in the pole vault and took third place. This is Kazakhstan's first-ever medal in this sport at the Asian Games. Alina Chistyakova also won bronze in the heptathlon. According to the heptathlon results, the Kazakh athlete scored 5568 points.
Just short of the podium
In addition, several Kazakh athletes came close to winning medals. In artistic gymnastics, Milad Karimi scored 13.666 points in the horizontal bar final and took fourth place. In rowing, Bekarys Ramatulla and Dmitry Kholmogorov finished fourth in the men's kayak double 500 metres. In mountain biking, Denis Sergienko took fifth place in the men's cross-country race. And Maxim Frolovsky finished sixth in the final of the 10,000 metres.
Beach volleyball and boxing
In beach volleyball, Merey Kozhakhmet and Laura Kabylbekova claimed their second win of the group stage. The Kazakh pair beat the Philippines' Bernadette Pons and Cherry Ann Rondina 2:1 and completed the qualifying stage without a single defeat. In boxing, Nazym Kyzaibay and Orazbek Asylkulov finished their competition at the 1/8 final stage.
Overall standings
After six competition days, Kazakhstan's team has 30 medals: 8 gold, 8 silver and 14 bronze. The national team is in fourth place in the overall standings of the 20th Summer Asian Games.
