A representative of Kazakhstan's national team, Zholaman Bigabyl, became the winner of the XX Summer Asian Games held in the Japanese cities of Aichi–Nagoya. This was reported by Qazaqyia.kz citing Sputnik Kazakhstan.

This was announced by the Ministry of Tourism and Sports. The ministry's statement contains specific details about Zholaman Bigabyl's victory.

Gold in karate

According to the ministry, in the final of the weight category up to 55 kilograms in the kumite program, the Kazakh athlete faced a representative of Uzbekistan.

"In the decisive bout, Zholaman Bigabyl confidently defeated his opponent with a score of 9:1 and won the gold medal of the Asian Games," the statement says.

Thus, Zholaman Bigabyl became the winner of the XX Summer Asian Games.

Karate as a mass sport

Today, WKF karate is considered one of the mass sports in Kazakhstan. This sport is developed in 20 regions of the country, and more than 77,000 people regularly practice it. About 25,000 of them are women.

According to the ministry, Zholaman Bigabyl's victory once again demonstrated the result of systematic training of Kazakh karatekas and work to develop this sport in the country's regions.

Sofya Berultseva's victory

Sofya Berultseva, on the first competition day of the Asian Games, brought Kazakhstan's team its fourth gold medal.

Thus, Kazakhstan's team won two more gold medals at the Asian Games. Zholaman Bigabyl became the winner in karate in the kumite program in the weight category up to 55 kilograms, while Sofya Berultseva brought the fourth gold on the first competition day.
