Rinata Sultanova, the winner of a historic gold medal in road cycling at the Asian Games, was welcomed today at Astana airport. This was reported by Qazaqyia.kz citing Kursiv Media.
The athletes were greeted by representatives of the Ministry of Tourism and Sports of the Republic of Kazakhstan, friends, families and fans.
"Daily training and working on myself helped me achieve victory. Of course, I am glad that I won two medals at the Asian Games at once. First of all, I set myself the goal of winning in road cycling and I achieved it. Huge thanks to everyone who supported me! To be honest, I did not expect that there would be so many fans at the airport today, and that my friends would come specially from Pavlodar. I am very happy," Sultanova noted.
Earlier, Kursiv wrote that Kazakh cyclist Rinata Sultanova became the silver medalist of the 2026 Asian Games in the omnium on the track. Based on the results of four disciplines, she scored 133 points and lost only to Japanese Yumi Kajihara.
For Sultanova, this is already the second medal of the 2026 Asian Games. On September 20, the Kazakhstani won the individual time trial on the road and brought the team its first gold of the current Games.
Recall that the XX Summer Asian Games have ended in Japan. The Kazakhstan national team won 84 medals — 12 gold, 24 silver and 48 bronze — and took eighth place in the overall team standings among 46 participating countries.
At the Games in Hangzhou in 2023, Kazakhstan took 11th place. Thus, compared to the previous Asian Games, the team rose by three positions and increased the number of gold medals. At the same time, the Kazakhstan national team achieved a number of historic results in Olympic disciplines at the current Games.
