In Fria, Guinea, Kazaliou Balde's parents began worrying about him when as a small child he avoided eye contact and had difficulty communicating. This was reported by Qazaqyia.kz citing Associated Press.

First, the family turned to a traditional healer who suggested protective amulets. Then, as the boy dragged himself along the ground instead of walking, they sought medical help. Kazaliou was diagnosed with autism, but awareness in Guinea is low and resources are limited.

Kadiatou Diallo quit her job to care for her son, dedicating herself to his education and socialization. She works with advocate Houssainatou Diallo, who helps spread information about autism. The article highlights the stigma and diagnostic challenges of autism in Africa.
