The trial for the murder of a family from Zhanheldin village near Atyrau is ongoing. Prosecutors read a new indictment to the defendant Sultan Sarsemaliyev. His situation has seriously worsened — all mitigating circumstances, including remorse and having five children, have been removed from the case. This was reported by Qazaqyia.kz citing Ak Zhaik.

According to the investigation, Sarsemaliyev first killed his former brother-in-law, Nauryz Mukangaliyev. He then stabbed his former father-in-law and mother-in-law (Maksot Karabalin and Nasip Uteshkaliyeva) to eliminate witnesses and cover up the first crime. This added particular gravity to the case.

Another tragic episode is the murder of his former sister-in-law, Meiramgul Karabalina. Investigators proved that the woman was helpless: due to mental illness and disability, she could not resist or defend herself.

After killing his relatives, Sarsemaliyev profited from their tragedy for a long time. The investigation found that he secretly registered and collected other people's pensions and disability benefits in his name. This is now officially classified as internet fraud. Additionally, the sale of the victims' livestock was reclassified as a full charge of cattle theft.

The court also admitted documents about Sarsemaliyev's divorce from his wife, which occurred in 2022 allegedly due to his infidelity. The victims' lawyer emphasized that this proves the wife was in a completely stable mental state at the time of the divorce.

The judge explained all the changes in the case to Sarsemaliyev. The next hearing will take place on July 7 — at that hearing, the defendant must answer whether he admits the new, more serious charges and whether he will testify again.
