A 16-year-old boy in Atyrau has been sentenced to 15 years in prison for the attempted murder of a 13-year-old student at BINOM school. The court found he had prepared for the attack in advance and left notes about his intent to take revenge on society. This was reported by Qazaqyia.kz citing Kursiv Media.

The trial lasted more than two months with the participation of jurors. The teenager was found guilty under Part 3 of Article 24 and Part 3 of Article 99 of the Criminal Code of the Republic of Kazakhstan — attempted murder of a minor.

According to Judge Zarema Khamidullina, on March 13 the teenager came to school with three knives, a hammer, pliers and a notebook in which he had laid out his plan. For about one hour and twenty minutes he searched for the girls he intended to attack. He then attacked an unfamiliar 13-year-old schoolgirl who was heading to her last lesson.

The girl sustained severe injuries. She was hospitalized and underwent surgery. Doctors managed to save her life.

In the defendant's notebooks, investigators found notes about hatred toward his parents, family and society, as well as statements expressing hatred toward women. In addition, he copied the names of criminals who had carried out mass killings in schools and kindergartens abroad.

«On the day of the incident, March 13, at 06:55 in the morning he left the following note: 'Today is my day of revenge,' 'Today I will finally take revenge on society. They mocked my appearance for no reason, treated me as an inferior person, humiliated me. None of them deserves to live. I hate them very much and hope they all die soon,'» the judge said.

In a physics notebook, a note was also found about an attempt to kill members of his own family and regret that the plan had not been carried out. In another note, the teenager declared his intention to attack people he would meet on his way with a knife.

In October 2025, the teenager had approached the school psychologist complaining about mockery from classmates. The court confirmed facts of his name being distorted, as well as mockery regarding his nationality and appearance. However, no facts of systematic beating or humiliation were established.

During the proceedings, it also became known that in February, National Security Committee (KNB) officers had identified publications of a religious-extremist nature on the teenager's personal pages. After that, he was given an explanatory talk with the participation of a theologian.

According to the judge, the court examined information about the teenager's dependence on social media and computer games, his withdrawn nature and interest in materials on prohibited internet resources.

«The information examined during the court session showed that the schoolboy's withdrawn nature, dependence on computer gadgets and games, and detachment from real life influenced the formation of his personality. Signs of cruelty began to appear in his behavior, and his negative attitude toward the surrounding world intensified,» Zarema Khamidullina said.

The teenager will serve his 15-year term in a medium-security institution for minors. One day of detention before the verdict enters into legal force will be counted as one and a half days of imprisonment.

The judge explained that after serving half of the term, with good behavior and no violations, the convicted person has the right to apply for a replacement of imprisonment with restriction of freedom.

Taking into account the circumstances of the case, the court and jurors issued a private ruling addressed to the Minister of Education and the prosecutor of Atyrau Region for the adoption of appropriate measures.

State prosecutor Maira Yerzhanova stated the need to strengthen the prevention of offenses among minors.

«The prosecutor's office emphasized the need to strengthen measures to prevent offenses among teenagers, increase parents' responsibility for raising children, and strengthen interaction between educational organizations and government bodies. Protecting children's rights and safety is the main task of the state and society. In this regard, it is important to identify possible threats in a timely manner,» she noted.

Earlier, «Kursiv» wrote about the attack that occurred on March 13. At that time, police reported the hospitalization of an eighth-grade girl and the detention of a ninth-grade student.
