The Atyrau regional administration has responded to mass complaints from residents about polluted air. This was reported by Qazaqyia.kz citing Sputnik Kazakhstan.
In recent days, Atyrau residents have been complaining about deteriorating air quality and an unpleasant odor. In this regard, the regional governor Bolat Akhsolakov ordered nighttime air quality measurements.
According to the deputy head of the Atyrau Regional Department of Sanitary and Epidemiological Control, monitoring was carried out between 22:00 and 07:00. As a result, in a number of city districts, concentrations of pollutants, including hydrogen sulfide and carbon monoxide, were recorded above the maximum permissible limits.
In addition, the head of the region ordered inspections of enterprises that allowed air pollution in Atyrau. "The current environmental situation is complex and such a situation must not be allowed. Solving environmental problems requires acknowledging the problem, objectively assessing the situation, and joint work of all interested parties," said Bolat Akhsolakov.
In January, residents of the region also complained about poor air quality. At that time, experts found that hydrogen sulfide levels exceeded the norm by more than 36 times.
