President Kassym-Jomart Tokayev has dismissed the akim of the Atyrau region. This was reported by Qazaqyia.kz citing Kursiv Media.

"By the Decree of the Head of State, Serik Zhambulovich Shapkenov has been relieved of his post as akim of the Atyrau region," the Akorda statement said.

Serik Shapkenov was born on July 29, 1979, in the West Kazakhstan Region. In 2000, he graduated from the Faculty of Economic Cybernetics of the West Kazakhstan State University with a degree in economist-mathematician. He then taught at the same university for about a year.

He had served as akim since April 7, 2022. Previously, he worked as first deputy akim of the Atyrau region and vice minister of labor and social protection of the population. From 2021 to 2022, he served as minister of labor and social protection of the population.

Yesterday, it became known that on July 17, deputies of the maslikhats of the Atyrau and Ulytau regions will gather for extraordinary sessions to elect new akims. Corresponding announcements appeared on the official websites of the regional maslikhats.

Earlier, Kursiv reported that the akim's pompous videos did not impress the residents of Satpayev.
