The Atyrau region is investigating possible cruel treatment of a 90-year-old resident of the village of Sagyz, Kyzylkoga district. This was reported by Qazaqyia.kz citing Kursiv Media.

According to relatives who gave shelter to the elderly man, he was held in a house against his will. The pensioner himself said he was not fed or given water, was not allowed outside, and periodically had his hands and feet tied so that he would not interfere and could not leave.

As the man's relatives claim, he managed to free himself. According to them, the pensioner found scissors, cut the tape, got out of the house through a window at night, and reached his brother's house, where he asked for help.

The elderly man's relatives demand an objective investigation and prosecution of those responsible. According to them, the pensioner's son may be involved in the incident.

The police department of the Atyrau region reported that a criminal case has been opened on this fact.

"On June 19, a criminal case was opened under the article 'Beatings' on the fact of causing bodily harm. Currently, necessary investigative actions are being carried out aimed at a comprehensive, complete and objective establishment of all circumstances. Other information is not subject to disclosure in the interests of the investigation," the police reported.
