A plan for the development of electric power in Atyrau region until 2034 has been developed. This was reported by the regional administration. This was reported by Qazaqyia.kz citing Sputnik Kazakhstan.
The document envisages the implementation of five major projects with a total capacity of 1,290 MW. The volume of electricity production in the region is 1,266 MW.
“The need to increase generation volume is linked to the growth in electricity consumption, including the launch of new industrial projects,” the statement says.
In summer, additional electricity received from neighboring power grids amounts to around 220–270 MW.
By 2030, it is planned to commission five new facilities:
- 01combined-cycle gas units of Sterna Power LLP and Hualin Energy Ltd with a capacity of 250 MW each,
- 02expansion of Atyrau CHP by 210 MW,
- 03construction of KUS LLP gas turbine power plant with a capacity of 330 MW,
- 04wind power plant of Batys Kaspii Energo LLP with a capacity of 250 MW.
In addition, work is underway with KEGOC JSC to develop grid infrastructure. The construction of a 604.3 km long, 500 kV power transmission line will make it possible to connect the western region to the Unified Electric Power System of Kazakhstan. The project is scheduled for completion in 2027.
The department noted that nine settlements in the Azgir area of Kurmangazy district receive electricity from the Russian Federation. “In this regard, two options are being considered: building a gas-piston power plant or laying a 205 km long 110 kV high-voltage power transmission line,” the statement says.
According to regional akim Bolat Akchulakov, energy development must take into account future consumption growth and stay ahead of it. “It is necessary to ensure the timely implementation of projects, increase own generation capacities and improve the reliability of electricity supply to settlements. At the same time, there should be no additional burden on tariffs for the population,” he said.
The meeting also considered the regional gas balance for 2024-2040. The head of the region instructed to analyze the balance of gas production and consumption, determine future demand and investments needed to increase own production.
