Nurlan Taubayev, the former first deputy governor of Atyrau region sentenced to 10 years in prison, will not be released on parole. This was reported by Qazaqyia.kz citing Sputnik Kazakhstan.
According to the KTK, the inter-district criminal court of Astana reviewed the official request of the ex-official for early release and refused to grant it. Taubayev, disagreeing with the court's decision, filed an appeal.
However, the criminal panel of the Astana city court reviewed the appeal and upheld the lower court's ruling. Thus, the former official will continue serving his sentence.
Taubayev has approximately two years left before his release from prison. He has been incarcerated since May 2022, and before that, he spent nearly two years in a pre-trial detention center.
Recall that in 2020, Nurlan Taubayev and the then-head of the Atyrau regional construction department, Timur Basarov, were detained on suspicion of attempting to receive a bribe of 182 million tenge from a contractor company conducting road construction in the region. In May 2022, the court found Taubayev guilty and sentenced him to 10 years in prison.
