According to preliminary data, investigative actions took place on the night of July 5. The case involves the sum of 100 million tenge.

The investigation is linked to the contractor Sapa Qurylys 2007 LLP, which carried out major repairs of sewer collectors in Atyrau. According to Halyqstan, the company is one of the largest contractors for the modernization of the city's sewer system.

Sapa Qurylys 2007 LLP won the tender for the first and second stages of sewer collector rehabilitation with a total length of about 25 km. The work covered 21 sections of city networks.

According to preliminary information, Makhuyov is suspected of receiving 100 million tenge from a company interested in adjusting the project "Major Repair of Sewer Networks of Atyrau City." The money was allegedly transferred through an intermediary who performed subcontract work on the same site.

Previously, the 49-year-old Makhuyov served as deputy akim of Atyrau and before that headed the city construction department.

It is reported that the management of Sapa Qurylys 2007 LLP may also be involved in the criminal case. The investigation is being conducted by the Anti-Corruption Service of the National Security Committee's department for Atyrau region together with the regional prosecutor's office.

Earlier, Kursiv reported that former first deputy akim of East Kazakhstan region Zhaksylyk Omar was sentenced to six years in prison for fraud. According to the National Security Committee, the investigation established that the official systematically extorted money from employees of subordinate organizations, promising career advancement and threatening dismissal or demotion in case of refusal.
