Astana Mayor Zhenis Kassymbek announced on his Instagram page that nearly 140 new schools are planned for construction in the city by 2035. This was reported by Qazaqyia.kz citing Kursiv Media.
According to the mayor, the development of the education system involves not only the construction of new educational institutions but also the training of teaching staff. In recent years, nearly 1,500 grants have been allocated for training in pedagogical specialties within higher and postgraduate education. Currently, about 2,000 students are studying in pedagogical fields under akimat grants.
Over the past three years, 1,314 graduates have received diplomas. For the 2026-2030 academic years, 303 educational orders have been placed for training personnel with higher and postgraduate education, of which 188 are in pedagogical specialties.
Additionally, a Pedagogical Institute was established on the basis of the Humanitarian College. Currently, 4,611 students are studying there under 36 educational programs.
During the new academic year, the capital plans to open another 12 educational institutions. In recent years, 44 schools have been built in the city, which has reduced the burden on existing educational institutions and created tens of thousands of new student places.
Preparation of project and urban planning documentation for 2027 has already begun. According to the General Plan, the construction of nearly 140 new schools is envisaged in Astana by 2035.
Earlier, Kursiv reported that in Almaty, eight new schools are planned to be opened before the start of the new academic year, and the construction of three extensions to existing educational institutions is to be completed. This will create 12,200 student places.
