An 8th-grade student at School-Gymnasium No. 2 named after Gafu Kairbekov in Astana, Setkazy Miras, has developed a neuroproject studying the impact of short videos on TikTok and YouTube platforms on children's attention. This was reported by Qazaqyia.kz citing Sputnik Kazakhstan.
The goal of the project is to experimentally determine the relationship between the time spent watching short videos and attention stability.
"During the study, students' screen time is analyzed and a survey is conducted. Also, using the Schulte table and Bourdon correction test, the speed, stability and accuracy of attention concentration are assessed," the statement says.
Within the project, results before and after watching short videos are compared, and the brain's reward system and the role of dopamine are examined.
The student pays attention to scientifically explaining the research results and avoiding overestimating cause-and-effect relationships.
As a practical result of the project, it is planned to develop digital hygiene rules, a memo and an information booklet. These materials will help students consciously manage screen time and concentrate attention during lessons.
The main goal of the project is not to abandon smartphones, but to form the skill of managing attention while effectively using digital technology, the akimat says.
