The scandal surrounding the construction of a shopping and entertainment center on Tauelsizdik Avenue in Astana has taken a comical turn. After residents mocked the developers for a linguistic error in the name 'Silk way Sity', 'repair work' finally arrived on the building's facade. This was reported by Qazaqyia.kz citing Kursiv Media.
Fresh footage from the scene appeared on social media. Threads user @fox_kzt posted a photo of the updated facade of the mall. The image shows that the letter 'S' in the word 'Sity', which had puzzled philologists and citizens, was simply covered with a tight black trash bag.
As a result of the emergency 'rebranding', the sign on the building now officially reads 'SILK WAY ITY'.

Recall that a wave of outrage over the mall being built on the site of a former hospice arose after residents noticed the spelling mistake. A complaint about the absurd error was even officially registered by the capital's unified contact center iKomek, which forwarded it to the relevant authorities to check the legality of displaying such visual information.
As it turned out earlier, behind the linguistic blunder lies a major construction conflict. According to media reports, initially a hotel complex was planned on plots No. 9 and No. 11. However, Khanbolat Nazarbayev (who is said to be the son of Bolat Nazarbayev) arbitrarily demolished the unfinished hotel and began building a mall. Later, the property was re-registered to his brother, Daniyar Kesikbayev, and his company URBAN AVTO LLP.
