World War II veteran Rzagul Baikeshev has passed away at the age of 103. This was reported by Qazaqyia.kz citing Sputnik Kazakhstan.
Today, the capital bid farewell to its last front-line soldier. Representatives of the Ministry of Defense, commanders of military units of the Akmola garrison, representatives of veteran organizations, deputies of the maslikhat and the head of the district came to say goodbye to the veteran.
Head of the Defense Affairs Department, Lieutenant Colonel Serik Kassenov, expressed condolences to the veteran's family on behalf of the Minister of Defense.
Rzagul Baikeshev was born on October 18, 1923, in the Mugalzhar district of Aktobe region. As part of the Soviet Army, he participated in battles near Rzhev, the Velikoluksk offensive operation, the liberation of Poland and Hungary, and met Victory in Berlin.
For his courage and bravery, Baikeshev was awarded the Order of the Patriotic War, 1st and 2nd class, as well as other state awards.
The farewell ceremony also included a guard of honor company and a military orchestra. The salute team fired three volleys from their weapons.
