Information spread on social media that a woman gave birth to a child in one of the capital's hotels and threw it into the sewer. This was reported by Qazaqyia.kz citing Kursiv Media.
The police department confirmed the fact to Kursiv and reported the detention of a 29-year-old suspect.
According to social media, the mother had a premature birth at six months of pregnancy.
The police reported that a pre-trial investigation is underway regarding the discovery of the child in the sewer.
In addition, residents of the residential complex near the ill-fated hotel often complained about frightening screams coming from the windows of the establishment. They claim they call patrols almost every night, but according to witnesses, law enforcement officers do not take sufficient measures.
In this regard, the Astana Police Department reported that since the beginning of 2026, 19 reports have been received from this hotel to the "102" channel.
"13 persons were brought to administrative responsibility for violating silence, 3 persons for violating public order," the police said.
Also, the hotel owner was issued a presentation to eliminate the causes and conditions conducive to the commission of criminal offenses.
"This area is under constant control of district police inspectors," the police concluded.
Earlier, Kursiv wrote that a live newborn was found in a garbage bag in Aktobe.
