The Spiritual Administration of Muslims of Kazakhstan has decided to rename the republican Main Mosque in Astana as the 'Nursultan Mosque'. This was reported by Qazaqyia.kz citing Sputnik Kazakhstan.

The new name has been officially adopted. The official statement reads: 'Under the new name, the republican Main Mosque will continue to serve the spiritual life of our people, strengthen unity and harmony in society, preserve traditional spiritual values, and develop good initiatives.'

It is worth noting that the Main Mosque of Astana is one of the largest mosques in Kazakhstan and Central Asia in terms of capacity. The foundation brick of the mosque was laid on March 18, 2019, on the initiative of Nursultan Nazarbayev. The mosque was solemnly opened on August 12, 2022.
