Budget funds were embezzled at the emergency medical station in Astana, the city prosecutor's office reported. This was reported by Qazaqyia.kz citing Sputnik Kazakhstan.
Between 2020 and 2023, the former director of the ambulance station, the former head of the transport department, and the former chief mechanic and warehouse manager embezzled budget funds. They stole money allocated for the repair and maintenance of sanitary vehicles.
As a result, the number of operational vehicles decreased from 149 to 32. The total damage to the state exceeded 700 million tenge. Of this, more than 440 million tenge was recovered by court verdict. The remaining 300 million tenge spent on taxi services must be recovered through civil proceedings.
By court verdict, all defendants were found guilty under paragraph 2) of Part 4 of Article 189 of the Criminal Code and sentenced to 9 and 8 years of imprisonment. Each of them was permanently deprived of the right to hold positions in the civil service and in subjects of the quasi-public sector.
