Bus stops, benches, bins and sculptures in Astana are increasingly suffering from vandals. This was reported by Qazaqyia.kz citing Kursiv Media.
The mayor of the capital, Zhenis Kassymbek, wrote about this on social media. According to him, 143 people have been held accountable in Astana for damaging other people's and municipal property, including minors.
In addition, 928 administrative offences related to the pollution of public places were recorded in the capital.
"By damaging urban infrastructure, offenders cause damage not only to the city, but also create inconvenience for all residents and guests of the capital — including their own relatives and loved ones, who walk these same streets every day," Kassymbek wrote.
The mayor said that police patrol the streets daily and identify offenders. The city is increasing the number of video surveillance cameras and removing graffiti advertising drugs.
"In accordance with the law, antisocial acts will be severely punished, up to and including criminal liability. Parents of underage offenders will also be held accountable. I urge all residents and guests of the capital to take care of our city — the place where we, our relatives and loved ones live," the mayor said.
Earlier, Kursiv wrote that an 18-year-old man and a teenager are suspected of vandalism on the Alley of Journalists in Astana. And in Shymkent, vandals disfigured a chess gazebo in a new square.
