Astana's master plan until 2035 includes the introduction of a tram system for the development of high-speed surface transport. This was reported by Qazaqyia.kz citing Sputnik Kazakhstan.

Under the project, 8 hectares of land will be allocated for the tram park. By 2035, it is planned to purchase 65 units of rolling stock. In the future, the park will be able to accommodate up to 200 trams.

Trams may operate in areas where LRT does not run. According to the akimat, this type of transport is likely to be launched in areas with a passenger flow of more than 3.5 thousand people per day.

According to the plan, trams will travel at a speed of 20 km/h. This will be a type of transport faster than a regular tram and similar to the surface LRT system.
