Robot couriers have been launched in Astana in pilot mode. This was reported by Qazaqyia.kz citing Sputnik Kazakhstan.
During the first stage of testing, residents of the Yesil district can place orders through the Yandex Lavka service. Robot couriers deliver orders for free.
The robots move along pedestrian paths to residential buildings and stop on the sidewalk near the entrance or at the nearest available place. The customer can track their movement via a mobile app. After the robot arrives, the cargo compartment can be opened using a smartphone to retrieve the order.
The average speed of the robot courier is 6 kilometers per hour. According to specialists, the robots independently build a route and analyze the environment using navigation systems, computer vision, and object recognition technologies. They detect obstacles, bypass them, yield to pedestrians, reduce speed, and stop if necessary.
Soon, delivery by robot couriers will also be available to residents of the Nura district. The pilot project is overseen by the Astana akimat, the police department, Astana Innovations JSC, and Yandex Qazaqstan.
