A large batch of ornamental plants imported from Russia without phytosanitary documents has been destroyed in Astana. This was reported by Qazaqyia.kz citing Sputnik Kazakhstan.
Specialists of the Astana territorial inspection of the Committee of State Inspection in the Agro-Industrial Complex of the Ministry of Agriculture of the Republic of Kazakhstan identified a batch of ornamental plants imported from the Russian Federation. The plants were imported without phytosanitary documents, which is a violation of Kazakhstan's quarantine legislation.
Inspection officers took samples of the plants and sent them for examination. The examination results showed that the plants were free of quarantine pests and diseases. However, due to the lack of documents, it was confirmed that the plants were illegally imported.
As a result of the violation, on July 17, 2026, more than 1,000 ornamental plants were destroyed in Astana. Among the destroyed plants were roses, chrysanthemums, gerberas, and other flowers. The plants were destroyed by incineration in a special furnace.
Specialists of the Ministry of Agriculture warn the public against importing plants without phytosanitary documents. Such actions may lead to the introduction of quarantine pests and diseases into Kazakhstan. In addition, administrative liability is provided for the violation.
This incident highlights the importance of plant quarantine control in Kazakhstan. All plants imported into the country must undergo phytosanitary control. This is necessary to ensure agricultural and environmental safety.
