Astana plans to plant more than 1.1 million green spaces in 2026. Since the beginning of the year, over 700,000 trees, shrubs, hedge plants and perennial flowers have already appeared in the city. This was reported by Qazaqyia.kz citing Kursiv Media.
In total, the capital has more than 4 million green spaces, with about 14 million more growing in the "Green Belt" area. Every year, at least 1 million trees, shrubs and flowers are planted in the city.
In 2026, Astana plans to plant 70,000 trees, more than 600,000 ornamental flowering shrubs, 40,500 hedge plants and over 400,000 perennial flowers.
Since the beginning of the year, 21,000 trees, 303,400 ornamental flowering shrubs, 28,000 hedge plants, 130,700 shrubs and 249,200 perennial flowers have already been planted. Work will continue in the autumn.
When selecting plants, the climatic conditions of the capital are taken into account. Maple, green rowan, small-leaved elm, red willow and lilac are planted in the city.
Landscaping is carried out not only in parks and squares, but also along the main city highways. New plantings are appearing along the Tarlan Astana line, on Syganak and Kabanbay batyr streets. New green zones of thousands of trees are planned to be formed in certain areas.
Work is also continuing on the territory of the second stage of the Greenline pedestrian boulevard. Walking routes, green spaces, sports and play areas are being created there.
A park cluster is being formed along the Yesil, which includes the Presidential Park, the Park of Peace and Harmony, Triathlon Park and other recreational zones. Improvement and landscaping of the embankment continues.
In the "Yesil" district, the green fund includes about 240,000 trees, about 600,000 shrubs, 65,000 sq. m of flower beds, 5 million sq. m of lawns and more than 117,000 linear meters of hedges. Since the beginning of the year, over 40,000 green spaces have been planted here.
Plantings were carried out along Kerey-Zhanibek khandar, Uly Dala, Kabanbay batyr streets, as well as in EXPO Park, the KTZ square and near the "Al-Farabi" mosque.
In the "Baikonyr" district, more than 2,000 green spaces have been planted since the beginning of the year. In the autumn, about 500 more trees and shrubs are planned to be planted on Abai Avenue and Kenesary, Pushkin and Zh. Tashenev streets.
In the square on Zh. Tashenev Street, 80 apple and pear trees planted in 2025 have taken root and bore their first fruit this season.
In the "Saraishyk" district, 2,357 trees and 18,577 ornamental flowering shrubs were planted.
In the Saryarka district, more than 330,000 green spaces, flowers and shrubs, as well as over 1,700 trees, have appeared since the beginning of the year. On Kumisbekova Street, more than 500 trees and over 2,400 shrubs, including pines, elms and lilacs, were planted.
In the "Almaty" district, there are more than 97,700 trees, 67,900 shrubs, 28,200 linear meters of hedges and 1.7 million sq. m of lawns. In 2026, more than 130,000 green spaces are planned to be planted here.
In the "Nura" district, 24,500 trees and about 277,000 ornamental and flowering shrubs have been planted in recent years. By the end of the year, more than 8,500 trees and over 132,000 shrubs are planned to be planted.
In the autumn, the first stage of landscaping the territory of Maly Taldykol will also begin. The akimat notes that the work will be carried out with maximum preservation of the existing landscape and natural environment.
At the same time, city services are caring for the already created green fund: watering, treating against pests and diseases, applying fertilizers and restoring irrigation systems.
Earlier, "Kursiv" wrote that in 2026 Astana plans to improve 173 courtyard and public spaces and plant more than 1.1 million green spaces. Astana akim Zhenis Kassymbek reported these plans to President Kassym-Jomart Tokayev in May.
