Astana continues to expand its light rail transit (LRT) network. New lines will be laid toward the city of Kosshy, the Zhagalau microdistrict, and the Astana-1 railway station. Astana Akim Zhenis Kassymbek spoke about the progress of construction. This was reported by Qazaqyia.kz citing Kursiv Media.
According to Kassymbek, since the LRT launched, passengers have made almost 11.5 million trips. Builders are currently working on the second phase of the project, which will cover three directions at once.
“This type of transport is in demand among city residents and is becoming part of their daily lives. In parallel, we continue implementing the second phase of the project, aimed at further developing the capital’s transport infrastructure,” the akim wrote on his Instagram.
Kosshy direction
Work has progressed furthest on the section toward Kosshy. Here, 294 supports have already been installed — 97% of the planned number. In addition, 385 overpass structures have been assembled, accounting for 73% of the total volume.
Three stations will appear in this direction. Concrete work on them is planned to be completed by the end of 2026.
Zhagalau microdistrict direction
Eight stations will be built toward the Zhagalau microdistrict. Geological surveys have been completed here, and fencing is being installed while utility networks are being relocated. After that, builders will be able to start the main work.
Astana-1 station direction
Another nine stations are planned on the line to the Astana-1 railway station on the right bank. Geological surveys on this section have already been completed. One of the stations will be an interchange station.
Work on Syganak Avenue
Work is also underway along Syganak Avenue, between Kabanbay Batyr and Turan avenues. An interchange hub is being built here that will connect stations No. 201 and 301.
On the section between Kazakh Radio Street and Kabanbay Batyr Avenue, two supports have already been concreted. Workers are currently installing piles and constructing foundations for future structures.
Earlier, Kursiv wrote that the passage to the LRT station at Abu-Dhabi Plaza was locked due to a bar in Astana.
