Astana is conducting raids to identify and eliminate illegal obstacles that impede access for emergency services in order to prevent fires. This was reported by Qazaqyia.kz citing Kursiv Media.

Since the beginning of this year, inspections have been carried out in 141 multi-apartment residential complexes. This was announced by Gabit Babayev, Deputy Head of the State Fire Control Department of the Emergency Situations Department.

Reasons for inspections

According to him, there are 1,138 multi-apartment residential buildings of increased height in the capital — more than 28 meters high or 10 floors and above. The reason for the inspections was the increase in the number of fires: since the beginning of 2026, 52 fires have occurred in high-rise buildings in the capital. The situation worsened after the tragic April fire in the Korkem-3 residential complex, where three children died due to a blocked entrance to the courtyard.

Main violations

Babayev named the most common violations:

  • 01cluttering of evacuation routes;
  • 02malfunction or improper maintenance of fire protection systems;
  • 03absence or malfunction of primary fire extinguishing equipment;
  • 04placement of vehicles at entrances to buildings, impeding the passage of fire engines.

Special attention

According to the representative of the Emergency Situations Department, special attention is paid to ensuring unhindered passage of special equipment into the courtyards of multi-apartment residential buildings. During the raids, illegally installed concrete blocks, posts, chains and other fences are identified, as well as cars parked in violation of requirements and impeding the passage of fire engines.

Appeal to residents

"The Emergency Situations Department urges residents not to install fences on their own in adjacent territories and not to leave cars in a way that they impede the access of fire engines. In case of fire, the clock may be ticking. Even a few meters blocked by a car or fence can significantly complicate the work of fire and rescue units. Work to improve fire safety in multi-apartment residential buildings continues. The main task is not only to identify violations, but also to ensure their actual elimination, preventing the emergence of conditions that could lead to death and injury of people," the speaker concluded.
