Drivers in Astana will have to adjust their usual routes. Due to the construction of a transport tunnel on Almaty Street, traffic on several sections of the highway will be completely closed until the end of 2026. This was reported by Qazaqyia.kz citing Kursiv Media.

According to the city akimat, traffic on Almaty Street from Akmeshit Street to Turkestan Street has been closed since July 18. Another stage of restrictions will begin on July 20 — the section from Akmeshit Street to Sauran Street will be completely closed to traffic. The restrictions will remain in effect until the completion of construction work at the end of 2026.

Despite the closures, passage through the intersections of Almaty Street with Akmeshit, Turkestan and Sauran streets will remain open, which will preserve transport links in the area.

The akimat recommends that motorists and pedestrians plan their routes in advance to avoid congestion. During the work period, temporary road signs and indicators will be installed on the site to help organize traffic safely.

Earlier, Kursiv reported that the capital is introducing a phased restriction of traffic on one of the key road sections of the left bank.

Additional information

The construction work is being carried out to improve the city's infrastructure. The tunnel is expected to ease traffic flow and reduce travel time for residents. The akimat apologizes for the temporary inconvenience and asks residents to be understanding.

Detailed maps of the closed sections and alternative routes can be obtained from the official website of the city akimat. Drivers are advised to use public transport or bicycles during the restrictions.

The construction work is scheduled to be completed by the end of 2026. During this time, the city akimat will update road signs and take all necessary measures to ensure road safety.
