A 32-year-old man suspected of defrauding 11 people under the guise of investments in tender projects has been detained in Astana. Damage exceeds 35 million tenge. This was reported by Qazaqyia.kz citing Polisia.kz.

According to the investigation, the man posted advertisements about high-yield investments on TikTok and Threads. He persuaded interested users to invest money during video calls, promising official cooperation and quick profits.

To confirm his intentions, the suspect concluded notarized contracts with clients. After receiving large sums, he allegedly failed to fulfill obligations and used the money at his own discretion.

The suspect was placed in a temporary detention facility. The police are conducting a pre-trial investigation and checking his possible involvement in other similar episodes.

The department urged citizens to verify information about investment projects, not to trust promises of guaranteed high income, and not to transfer money to unfamiliar people.

Earlier, Kursiv reported that fraudsters use fake investment platforms, where they first allow withdrawing a small amount of allegedly earned profit. After that, the victim is persuaded to increase investments, and when trying to withdraw a large sum, they are required to pay taxes, commissions, or insurance. The National Bank reminded that its employees do not offer investment products to citizens and do not conduct settlements with the public.
