In Astana, representatives of nine countries and the Interpol General Secretariat discussed the fight against transnational organized crime, cyber threats and financial crimes. This was reported by Qazaqyia.kz citing Kursiv Media.

The meeting was held as part of a gathering of heads of Interpol National Central Bureaus from Central Asian countries, according to Polisia.kz.

Participating countries

The meeting was attended by delegations from Kazakhstan, Azerbaijan, Georgia, Kyrgyzstan, Russia, Tajikistan, Turkmenistan, Turkey and Uzbekistan.

Issues discussed

Participants reviewed issues of international search, prompt information exchange and the effective use of Interpol's tools and databases. The Kazakh side presented its practical experience of working with the organization's capabilities.

The meeting also discussed the Regional Action Plan for Central Asia. It is aimed at strengthening coordination between law enforcement agencies and uniting their efforts in countering transnational threats.

Earlier, Kursiv wrote that a Kazakh citizen who had been on the international wanted list on suspicion of especially large-scale fraud was brought to Astana from abroad. According to the National Security Committee, the man had been hiding since 2021, and the operation was carried out jointly with the National Central Bureau of Interpol of the Ministry of Internal Affairs under the coordination of the Prosecutor General's Office.
