A 34-year-old man has been detained in Astana for damaging two elevators in a residential complex on Tauelsizdik Avenue. This was reported by Qazaqyia.kz citing the official website of the capital's akimat and the police department.

According to police, the man was intoxicated and deliberately damaged common property of the building.

The offender broke the doors of first one elevator and then the second. He pried them open with his hands, kicked and struck them, causing the lifting equipment to malfunction.

The material damage amounted to 1.5 million tenge.

A criminal case has been initiated for intentional destruction or damage of another's property. The suspect has been detained.

Police reminded that any encroachment on another's property entails liability under Kazakhstan's legislation.

Earlier, Kursiv reported that a video of a man damaging two elevator cabins in a residential complex at 21/9 Tauelsizdik Avenue circulated on social media. The Astana police department then stated that an investigation into the damage of common property had been launched.
