Rescuers in Astana pulled a man from the Yesil River who was being carried away by the current. The incident occurred near Central Park. This was reported by Qazaqyia.kz citing Kursiv Media.
A report about a drowning person was received at the 112 dispatch center from a witness. According to the witness, the man periodically appeared on the water surface and then went under water again.
Rescuers on a speedboat were immediately dispatched to the scene.
"Within a minute of receiving the call, rescuers arrived at the scene, found the man in the water, threw him a lifebuoy, and pulled him aboard the boat," the Ministry of Emergency Situations reported.
According to the ministry, the rescued man was intoxicated. By the time emergency services arrived, he was severely exhausted.
The Ministry of Emergency Situations reminded Kazakhstani citizens to follow safety rules on water bodies and not to enter the water while intoxicated.
