The Astana Police Department has warned that new restrictions on electric scooters will soon come into force. This was reported by Qazaqyia.kz citing Sputnik Kazakhstan.
Today, police officers held a preventive action to explain the new requirements. During the action, law enforcement officers together with volunteers explained the legal requirements to citizens riding e-scooters and told them about new restrictions that will come into force from August 25.
New rules
In two weeks, riding e-scooters on sidewalks and pedestrian paths will be prohibited. Scooter riders will have to move on bicycle paths and bike lanes. If there are no such paths, it is allowed to ride on the right edge of the roadway or on the roadside.
A person riding an e-scooter on the road must comply with previously introduced requirements:
- 01be at least 18 years old;
- 02have a driver's license of any category;
- 03use a protective helmet;
- 04use reflective elements in the dark.
Restrictions introduced by kick-scooter rental companies
Today, companies renting out e-scooters have also begun to comply with the requirements of the law. According to Alibek Abilkasov, director of the capital's branch of JET company, since July 1, mandatory verification via IIN is carried out when registering in the application. The system checks the user's age and does not allow persons under 18 to use the service.
"We have identified cases where parents gave their accounts to children. Also, it should be remembered that only one person should ride on one scooter. Accounts of users riding together will also be blocked," said Abilkasov.
In addition, identification numbers have begun to be applied to three places on scooters – on the frame and rear fender. This allows the vehicle to be recognized through cameras and measures to be taken against violators.
E-scooters must not be left in the middle of the sidewalk, on the roadway, on a bike path, or in car parking spaces. Accounts of users who violate these requirements may also be blocked.
