Astana has tightened control over electric scooter users, the official website of the Astana akimat reported, citing the city police department. This was reported by Qazaqyia.kz citing Sputnik Kazakhstan.

According to the akimat, with the start of the summer season, the number of electric scooter users on the streets of the capital has increased significantly. "However, many citizens ignore the requirements of traffic rules, posing a threat to themselves and others. Since the beginning of the year, law enforcement officers have identified more than 1,200 cases of traffic violations by electric scooter users," the statement said.

For instance, in one case, two underage teenagers rode a single electric scooter on a busy road, repeatedly violating traffic rules. An administrative protocol was drawn up against the 16-year-old teenager. The legal representatives of the minors were also held accountable for failing to properly fulfill their duties of upbringing and care.

The police remind: it is forbidden to ride two people on one scooter, use a phone or headphones while moving, exceed speed limits, or perform dangerous maneuvers. When crossing a pedestrian crossing, riders must dismount and walk the scooter.

Additionally, users of rental scooters often leave them in unauthorized places. Abandoned on sidewalks, at stops, and pedestrian crossings, such vehicles obstruct citizens. These scooters are towed and taken to a municipal impound lot.
