A crane operator in Astana lost her leg after a tower crane collapsed at a construction site. The woman is raising three children alone and is now disputing the amount of compensation with her employer. This was reported by Qazaqyia.kz citing Kursiv Media.

The accident occurred on August 31 during the dismantling of the crane. A locksmith died at the scene, and Akmaral Karabaliyeva was taken to hospital unconscious.

According to the woman, before the collapse, workers removed one section of the crane, after which they received an order to dismantle two at once.

"We removed one section of the tower crane. Then someone shouted over the radio: 'Let's do two at a time, no need to mess around!' One of the locksmiths said: 'Tate, we're going to get shaken now, don't be afraid of anything.' The crane shook so hard that I flew up! The next thing I knew, I was on the operating table," Akmaral said.

Her right leg was amputated. The woman is currently in hospital and says she continues to experience severe pain.

According to the victim, the employer bought her a wheelchair and promises compensation in the amount of three monthly salaries. Akmaral considers such a payment insufficient and hopes for long-term financial support due to the loss of ability to work.

The woman also has a mortgage. She recently bought an apartment in installments, and the debt exceeds 19 million tenge.

The causes of the crane collapse are being established by a special commission. The Committee for State Labor Inspection reported that the worker was officially employed and had an insurance contract.

"The cause of the collapse is still being established. After the investigation is completed, the act will be sent to the insurance company for insurance payments," commented Rustam Zhandosov, head of the department of the committee for state labor inspection in Astana.

After disability is established, a medical and social examination will determine the degree of loss of ability to work. The amount of monthly payments will depend on this.

Akmaral is planned to be discharged from hospital soon. She will have to learn to move on one leg.
