In Astana, about a thousand special window restrictors will be installed in homes with children to reduce the risk of minors falling out. This was reported by the official website of the city akimat. This was reported by Qazaqyia.kz citing Kursiv Media.
The "Safe Window" campaign is carried out by the Department for Emergency Situations of Astana together with the police and volunteers. Mobile groups visit multi-storey buildings according to a pre-compiled list and install devices that do not allow the window to be fully opened.
Ali Argynbayev, an engineer at the Department for Emergency Situations of Astana, noted that with the onset of warm weather, the risk of children falling out of windows increases. The groups were distributed across the city's districts to cover as many residential buildings as possible.
"Today we have about a thousand blockers for installation across the city. However, the work will not stop there; we will continue to expand coverage. Similar events were held last year, and we will continue this work together with local executive bodies," said Ali Argynbayev.
Specialists urged parents not to leave children unattended even for a short time. The Emergency Situations Department reminded that a mosquito net does not protect a child from falling, and furniture that a child could climb on should not be placed near windows.
The organizers intend to continue installing restrictors. Families whose homes have already received blockers noted the importance of the campaign, especially for apartments where several children are raised.
Earlier, Kursiv reported that in one day in Astana, four children fell from windows of high-rise buildings. Two of them died, and two more were hospitalized in serious condition. According to the city health department, since the beginning of the year, 60 such cases have occurred in the capital, and nine children died before the ambulance arrived.
