A court in Astana has sentenced a 46-year-old man to 10 days of administrative arrest for indecent acts on public transport. He was detained after a girl's post about harassment on a bus was published, police reported. This was reported by Qazaqyia.kz citing Kursiv Media.
A Threads user wrote that a passenger deliberately touched her. According to the girl, the touches were not accidental or related to crowding in the cabin.
"I felt rubbing against my buttock. Turning around, I saw his hand. It was not an accidental touch due to crowding. He was groping me," she wrote.
The girl said she moved away, reprimanded the man and photographed him. After that, she decided to speak publicly about what happened.
"I did what I had the strength to do at that moment: I stopped him, photographed him and now I am telling about it publicly," the author of the post said.
She also admitted that she doubted whether she could prove the fact of harassment when contacting the police.
Police said they found the post during social media monitoring. Officers identified and detained 46-year-old Zhanat Shartykhbayev. An administrative case was opened against him and he was placed in a temporary detention room.
By court decision, the man was sentenced to 10 days of administrative arrest.
"Every citizen has the right to safety and respectful treatment in public places," police reminded.
Earlier, Kursiv wrote that in Astana an inDrive taxi driver was sentenced to 10 days of administrative arrest for persistent offers of an intimate nature to a passenger.
