Traffic on part of Almaty Street in Astana is planned to be moved entirely underground. This was reported by Qazaqyia.kz citing Sputnik Kazakhstan.
Nurzhan Abishev, chief specialist of the capital construction department of the transport administration, told Sputnik Kazakhstan about the construction of the 800-meter transport tunnel in Astana.
The tunnel will have four lanes: two in each direction. The length of its closed section is 300 meters, with an additional 500 meters for approach roads. The height of the structure is 5.5 meters.
Builders are using "diaphragm wall" technology: special piles overlap each other by 25 cm, forming a compacted structure. This allows work to be carried out in urban areas with dense construction.
"The main goal is to organize convenient and continuous traffic on this section," said Nurzhan Abishev.
The construction is planned to be completed by the end of 2027.
