A 19-year-old worker at a goods pickup point in Astana has been convicted of stealing items worth more than 14.9 million tenge. This was reported by Qazaqyia.kz citing Sputnik Kazakhstan.

According to the city prosecutor's office, the worker placed orders through a marketplace app for gold items, clothing, food and other goods.

"When receiving the goods, he secretly took possession of them, substituting them with other items — either returning different items in their place or handing over other products to the warehouse. For example, after ordering gold earrings worth 182,000 tenge, he replaced them with costume jewellery and returned them to the seller," the prosecutor's office said.

In total, he stole 195 items worth more than 14.9 million tenge.

By court verdict, he was sentenced to five years of imprisonment. The victim's civil claim for compensation of damages was also satisfied. The court verdict has entered into legal force.
