Residents of Astana have been warned about the ongoing nighttime treatment of the city against mosquitoes and midges. The akimat asked to close windows and avoid visiting areas where work is being carried out during disinsection. This was reported by Qazaqyia.kz citing Kursiv Media.
According to the department, 10,000 hectares of territory have already been treated as of today.
"During disinsection measures, it is important to observe the following precautions: limit visits to the treated area; close windows during treatment," the Akimat of Astana reported.
The work is carried out daily at night — from 21:00 to 05:00. Treatment starts in the city center and gradually moves to the outskirts, where a protective barrier is formed. One round lasts 20 days, with six stages planned for the season.
The akimat noted that it is impossible to completely destroy mosquitoes as they are part of the ecosystem. However, the measures taken can reduce their numbers by up to 90%.
Rotary sprayers, special disinsection machines, quadcopters for hard-to-reach areas with reed vegetation, and an equipped boat for treating large water bodies are used for treatment.
More than 150 disinsection specialists are involved in the work. In addition, the authorities called on condominium associations, property management companies, and owners of various facilities to treat basements and eliminate places favorable for insect breeding.
