After a blogger's posts about mountains of trash at the Vyacheslav Reservoir near Astana, the akimat of Arshaly district in Akmola region commented on the situation. This was reported by Qazaqyia.kz citing Kursiv Media.
Since the beginning of the year, five environmental clean-up events have been held at the reservoir, involving RSE Kazhydromet, the Ministry of Water Resources and Irrigation, RSE Kazvodkhoz, LLP Zhas Nur, volunteers, and local residents. A total of about 450 people participated in the events.
"In addition, assistance is provided on an ongoing basis in providing specialized equipment and organizing the removal of collected waste, which allows for regular sanitary cleaning of the coastal area," the department explained.
The akimat acknowledged that in the summer period, the reservoir is visited daily by a large number of vacationers, and the volume of waste left significantly exceeds the capacity for timely cleaning. Even despite the constant work of the involved organizations.
"In this regard, we urge all vacationers to maintain cleanliness, treat the environment with care, and take out their trash after rest. Only through the joint efforts of government agencies, organizations, volunteers, and citizens themselves can we keep the natural area clean and comfortable for everyone," the akimat's response said.
Earlier, blogger chingizcheetah and other social media users published videos and photos of mountains of trash at the Vyacheslav Reservoir, expressing concern that due to such attitude of vacationers, the only popular recreation area near the capital could be closed to visitors.
