Hydrogen sulfide concentrations in the atmospheric air of Astana and Aktobe have been found to exceed permissible limits several times over. This was reported by Qazaqyia.kz citing Kursiv Media.

According to data from the RSE Kazhydromet, the actual hydrogen sulfide content in Aktobe's air was 24 micrograms per cubic meter, three times higher than the maximum permissible concentration (MPC). On August 8, Aktobe is expected to experience intense heat of 36-38°C, with a northeast wind shifting to westerly at 7-12 meters per second.

"On the night of August 9, 2026, meteorological conditions will contribute to the accumulation of pollutants in the city's atmosphere. Overall, an elevated level of air pollution is expected across the city," the RSE reported.

In Astana today, temperatures of 32-34°C are expected, with a northeast wind of 3-8 meters per second. According to ecologists and meteorologists, weather conditions will contribute to the accumulation of pollutants in the city's atmosphere. Specifically, hydrogen sulfide levels in the capital's air are 46 micrograms per cubic meter, or 5.8 times above the norm.

In Almaty today, temperatures of 32-34°C are expected, with a northeast wind of 3-8 meters per second.

"Meteorological conditions will contribute to the accumulation of pollutants in the city's atmosphere," the statement notes.

For instance, the concentration of particulate matter PM-2.5 in Almaty was 182 micrograms per cubic meter, or 1.1 times above the MPC.

Hydrogen sulfide levels in Petropavlovsk were also above the norm – 22 micrograms per cubic meter (2.8 times higher than MPC). Air quality in Kostanay is also not ideal, where sulfur dioxide levels reached 2510 micrograms per cubic meter, or 5.02 times higher than permitted. Additionally, nitrogen dioxide levels were 536 micrograms per cubic meter (2.681 times above the norm).

In Ust-Kamenogorsk, hydrogen sulfide exceeded the permissible concentration by 1.613 times (actual concentration 13 micrograms per cubic meter), and sulfur dioxide by 1.62 times (810 micrograms per cubic meter). In Temirtau, hydrogen sulfide concentration in the city air is 8 micrograms per cubic meter, which equals the maximum permissible value.

In Aktau's air, hydrogen sulfide was 8 micrograms per cubic meter, nearly equal to the maximum permissible norm (0.95 of it). In other Kazakh cities where air quality was studied, pollutant levels are within MPC limits.
