The traditional 'Tolagay' strongman tournament was held in Astana to mark Capital City Day. This was reported by Qazaqyia.kz citing Kursiv Media.
This year's competition was dedicated to the 155th anniversary of the famous Kazakh wrestler Kazhymukan Munaitpasuly. The tournament took place on the square in front of the Akimat of Astana building. It featured the strongest athletes from various regions of Kazakhstan competing in six strength disciplines.
Participants had to complete a 'farmer's walk', tow a cart with a 200 kg load, perform squats with a 130 kg log on their shoulders, carry a 100 kg stone over a set distance, and lift a sword and a bull dummy.
According to the akimat, the tournament was organized to promote national sports, develop strength sports among youth, and encourage a healthy lifestyle. A festive concert with city artists was also prepared for spectators.
Recall that July 6 is celebrated as Capital City Day in Kazakhstan. Hundreds of events took place in Astana, and President Kassym-Jomart Tokayev shared his vision for the future of the metropolis.
