In the capital, reconstruction of the old railway station Astana-1 continues at an accelerated pace. After renovation, the station area will increase by 500 square meters and reach 8,700 square meters. This was reported by Qazaqyia.kz citing Kursiv Media.
Currently, work is underway on the roof and facade of the building, reconstruction of the platform and concourse passage. Interior finishing works are also being carried out in parallel, as well as installation of water supply, sewerage, heating, power supply, ventilation and communication systems.
The reconstruction involves 255 specialists and 12 units of construction equipment.
The Ministry of Transport promises that after completion, the station will meet modern requirements of safety, comfort and accessibility. New escalators, elevators and lifting platforms will be installed for passengers, ramps, mother and child rooms, as well as modern sanitary rooms and waiting areas will be equipped.
"As part of modernization, modern video surveillance, fire alarm, access control and passenger notification systems are being introduced. In addition, new LED screens are being installed, voice notification systems, furniture and technological equipment are being updated," the ministry said.
It is worth noting that the passenger flow of Astana-1 station for seven months of 2026 exceeded 1.8 million people. Of these, more than 908 thousand passengers departed from the capital, and over 977 thousand arrived in Astana.
Earlier, Kursiv reported that the contractor of Astana-1 station was instructed to speed up to meet the deadlines.
